Loree - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Loree - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Answers to Your Most Common Queries!

Is Loree an LTI?

Absolutely! Loree has been developed following the guidelines and specifications of LTI 1.3.

Which Learning Management System (LMS) is Loree available for?

Loree is accessible to all customers using Canvas.

How easy is Loree to setup?

Setting up Loree is very easy! We provide a self-service model with a step-by-step online guide and even offer added zoom support if needed. Additionally, you have the option to have our dedicated Loree Support team handle the configuration for you, at no extra charge.

Where is Loree hosted?

Loree is hosted on Amazon Web Services, which is known for its secure, reliable, and thoroughly tested infrastructure. As trusted AWS partners, we implement the best AWS practices and security measures to ensure the utmost safety and performance for Loree.

Is Loree secure?

Yes, indeed! Loree is designed to align with the user access roles in the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring that users can only access what they have been granted. To ensure secure communication, we utilize HTTPS between the users and Loree Servers (the nest!). Furthermore, any information we store, such as templates and images, is encrypted for maximum security. Rest assured, we also undergo regular independent security reviews to maintain the highest level of protection.

What happens to your Loree content if you choose to cancel your subscription?

When you use Loree to create layout-driven responsive designs, all the content, including text, images, videos, and other media, is saved directly back to your Canvas LMS when you click the "Save to LMS" button in the Loree editor. Your course content is not stored outside of the LMS. This means that even if you choose to stop using Loree in the future, you can still edit this content using the Rich Content Editor within Canvas. You can update text, images, and add additional information as needed. However, you will lose the ability to create new responsive designs and multi-column layouts, as well as edit and update existing multi-column layouts without HTML/CSS skills.

To ensure that Loree designs remain responsive and supported within the LMS, we require all customers to upload a CDN file to their Canvas themes. This allows us to automatically maintain and update the CSS file that supports Loree for all active users. Normally, if an institution discontinues their Loree license, any updates to the CSS would no longer be managed, potentially impacting layouts over time. However, as SoaringEd is committed to providing an exceptional learner experience, we can continue to maintain and update the CSS file for up to 3 years after discontinuation of a Loree license.

It's important to note that while content and other media are saved directly to the LMS, Loree Interactives are embedded as an iframe. If you choose to discontinue using Loree in the future, there may be a nominal fee to support the hosting of these Interactives via our Loree AWS Server in order to maintain them.

How does Loree's H5P integration work?

Loree's integration with H5P is specifically with H5P.org, not H5P.com. By incorporating H5P into the Loree editor, we offer a seamless process for educators and designers to create and embed interactive content. This integration is available as an add-on license, which includes hosting provided by Loree. The H5P add-on is perfect for users who want to start their H5P journey, but it is not necessary for those who already have an existing H5P account within their organization.

Can Loree be installed from a sub-account level?

Indeed, Loree can be easily installed at a sub-account level. However, it's important to note that only users who have been added to the Loree-Admin role can access the Loree Admin Portal. This role is created at the root level during the LTI configuration process.

How do Loree interactives work?

Loree Interactives are a collection of customizable interactive elements within the Loree platform. With Loree Interactives, users can create engaging content without needing to write any code. These interactives can be tailored to match your brand's colors and styles, and can be easily embedded into any LMS page using the Loree editor. When embedded, they are displayed as iframes, making them simple to update in the future. If you need to make a mass change, simply edit the original interactive source, and the changes will automatically apply wherever the component is embedded. It's like magic!

Is it possible for students to access Loree and make changes to the course content?

No, students enrolled in a course under the 'student' role are unable to access Loree by default. This is the only role that we have restricted from using Loree.

How long does it take to install Loree?

The installation time for Loree varies depending on the speed at which everyone involved can complete the necessary steps. However, on average, it takes about 15-30 minutes to configure and map roles and permissions. Once that is done, we can proceed with your guided training, and you'll be ready to go!

What level of access is required?

If you would like our Customer Support Developers at Loree to handle the installation and setup for you, we will need admin access to your Learning Management System (LMS). Don't worry, you can always revoke this access after the installation is complete. However, we have found that many of our users prefer to continue granting access to our support team for testing and occasional CSS file updates. Of course, if you have an LMS Admin within your organization, they can easily handle these tasks as well.

What training options are available to support my team or organization?

The Loree team and our Customer Success Managers will collaborate with you and your organization to create virtual training sessions that cater to the specific needs of your users. We have previously organized large group conferences and breakout sessions that focus on different roles and functions. Additionally, we can provide "train the trainer" sessions, where we work closely with a small team of champions to ensure they are well-prepared to introduce the Loree experience to your organization. This course will be packed with information and activities to empower you and your team, leaving you feeling confident in utilizing the full potential of Loree.

Is Loree content Accessible?

Indeed, Loree currently includes its own built-in Accessibility checker. However, we are also in the process of launching a new checker with an improved user interface. This new feature will enhance our users' ability to deliver the best learning experience possible. Additionally, we are actively working on making the Loree editor itself accessible, ensuring that all aspects of our platform are user-friendly and inclusive.

Can Loree be used in languages other than English?

We are currently working on improving our Loree editor to support localization, which will allow users to use Loree in languages other than English. These enhancements are part of our roadmap and are expected to be implemented soon. We are excited about these upcoming changes that will enhance the user experience and expand the reach of Loree to a wider audience.

Can I export Loree course pages to another LMS?

Exporting Loree-designed content from one Learning Management System (LMS) to another can present some user interface challenges. This is because each LMS has its own unique experience and methods for building courses, accessing course content like files, and managing CSS. To ensure that the layouts and elements of Loree are supported, the application requires the addition of a CSS/JS file to be uploaded to the LMS themes, such as in the case of Canvas LMS, or a centralized location.

For example, if you create content with Loree in one Canvas instance and add the CSS file to the themes of a second instance, the content will appear the same. However, when exporting Loree-designed content from one LMS to another, it's important to consider the differences in user interfaces between instances and organizations. We are here to assist you in finding solutions and implementing cross-LMS support to overcome any challenges that may arise.

What accessibility standards does Loree comply with?

We currently validate and check Loree against the WCAG 2.1 AA standard, which ensures that our platform meets the highest accessibility standards.

Browser policy to support video AutoPlay option

Here is a general overview of the autoplay policies for some popular browsers as of last update:
Google Chrome:
  • Chrome has implemented autoplay policies to improve user experience and reduce unwanted noise. Autoplay is allowed under certain conditions, like when the media has no sound, when the user has interacted with the site, or when the user has frequently played media on the site.
  • Developers are encouraged to use the autoplay attribute along with the muted attribute when starting playback.
Mozilla Firefox:
  • Firefox has similar autoplay policies. Autoplay with sound is generally allowed when the user has interacted with the site or when the site has a high level of user engagement.
  • The autoplay attribute can be used, and it's recommended to set the muted attribute for better chances of autoplay.
Microsoft Edge:
  • Microsoft Edge follows similar policies to Chrome and Firefox. Autoplay with sound is allowed when the user has interacted with the site or when there is a high level of user engagement.
  • The autoplay attribute, along with the muted attribute, is recommended.
Safari:
  • Safari has its own autoplay policies. Autoplay with sound is generally not allowed unless the user has interacted with the site or the media element is muted.
  • Developers can use the autoplay attribute along with the muted attribute for better compatibility.
Opera:
  • Opera's autoplay policies are aligned with Chromium (the engine behind Chrome). Autoplay with sound is allowed under conditions such as user interaction.
  • The autoplay attribute, combined with the muted attribute, is recommended.
Remember that browser policies can change, and it's crucial to refer to the official documentation or release notes of each browser for the most current information. Additionally, user preferences or settings may also affect autoplay behavior, so it's essential to consider the user experience in different scenarios.
